Anti-Infinite mechanic?

I'm not sure if this is native to the training mode, but when I was testing out Peacock's George infinite, the enemy stopped being staggered by the standard ground combo and instead behaved as though they just landed after an air combo. I believe I hit this around the 150 combo hits level, which leads me to believe that perhaps there is an anti-infinite mechanic in place to prevent such things from happening (though if you hit 150 combo on Peacock alternating ground combo and George, they should have been long dead)

Edit: Hmm, this seems to be a bug. Tried replicating it on training mode Painwheel and ended up killing her 100-0 with a 384-long combo.
