There are many strong and cheap early game options tbh. I built my first Filia around lv65, and did perfectly fine without her beforehand and barely use her afterwards I agree that the Eliza nerfs are a bit overwhelming, and there is no buff to compensate

The sorting right now is quite flexible tbh. The real downside is the number of fighters you see. If it was increased from 1 row to 2 rows (character cards will need to be shrunk), you'd find what you need much, much faster even with the existing filters I'm not against more sorting options...

I just make sure to use a BB before too many debuffs are applied on my character tbh. Wither and Disable BB are honestly the worst ones you can get, since they stop you from reseting everything. So in case I get Disable BB I tag in a different fighter
