It's both visual and affects the tangibility of the card. While selecting fighters for a rift fight, a card disappeared. Upon moving the cards around to see it, it shifted the card that was invisible/unselectable. I could slide a card over to its place, resulting in a shift from the prior card to the new one becoming invisible/unselecatable. It occurred while I was trying to slide right-to-left to move down the list of cards and accidentally moved up at the same time (to approximately 2/3rds up the screen and near the top left corner).
