If you defeat the last standing opponent using a blockbuster and/or a special move that has a relatively long animation time during the last few seconds of the 3:00 countdown timer, the fight will end in defeat and the game will become perpetually stuck.
For example I used Cerebella's Ultimate Showstopper with 0:03 seconds left on the clock and beat Painwheel just as the time ran out. Still resulted in defeat even though I technically won, then the game froze forever and I had to relaunch. I'm sure this bug affects all characters and blockbusters that have long animations (basically every level 3 blockbuster).
Maybe this wouldn't happen if there was some sort of overtime where it waits for the blockbuster to finish after timer reaches 0:00. If you still fail to knock out the remaining opponent then it would result in defeat.
