Bug - Normal show me your moves bug, gold & diamond

this morning I entered the prize fights for coins, and noticed that when everyone had silver characters in defend and I could use both diamond and gold, the system even removed my golden squigly when i dragged it into the slot. what is that?

I'm not exactly sure what happened based on your explanation, feel free to elaborate. I will say on that particular weekend we were having some server issues specifically related to the show me your moves PF.
