That title is not bait at all the way this new Guest Stars update was managed was horrible and sudden-

- So you're telling me not only do said Guest Stars have stats like normal Moves but they can go up to 20 and better yet these cost a pretty penny so good luck pulling for a Shiny

- This will 1000% make Rifts and even worse experience because now you can have even more bloated Defenders with crazy HP values

- You need Gold Retakes to retake a stat you don't like- How come there wasn't a Guest Stat specific retake for each of them?

Listen the concept is highly unnecessary, I'd say vault them entirely and refund the people who spent money or remove the stats they have because that's the biggest factor in all of this it will make the grind to have a perfect moveset that much more tedious and grindy.

Give us an update that makes sense I'll even give you a list:
- Reworks for Characters/Variants

- Add Guilds for the love of god its not even funny it hasn't been added for the past 4+ years

- Fix the Shard Exchange system making it more affordable

- Add the Shard Exchange system with other units that are already available

Better yet watch this video I made with @Kevin Pepino sure the guy quit but our statements still hold up-

I agree that giving them stats was a big mistake... From a business point of view, it's brilliant, because whales are gonna whale. However, just like you mentioned, this will most likely push away new players even further away from Rifts

Still quite early to judge, so let's see how this pans out

edit: a concern I've had for a very long time is how overly cluttered the UI gets. Having yet another button added makes the game look even messier than it does now

So you are telling me before this update your every character or at least every defender had +15 moves with perfect stats? It was already bad before the update, it is just even worse now.

I will never understand how them having high HP is the problem in rifts. The problem is that current catalysts favor only a handful of characters so people are just using those and most of the characters are unusable there because of unnecessarily gimmicky catalysts. It was a bad rework afterall.

The other problem is we currently have no way to decrease or disable unblockable guest star moves unlike tier 3 BBs.

I agree there should have been an a "Guest Star Retake" for them and universal ones should still be usable that way too.

My moves were never completed to begin with and realistically speaking it takes incredible amounts of resources already. You would want at least 12 fully maxed defender Guest Star moves so you can equip them on your rift defenders. I have no idea how pricey it would be, can anyone do the math if they know about the dust and coin total requirements? This is not including the retakes you will have to spend on them ofc.

I think current one is perfectly fine for late game players. Making the shard exchange store include units that is already available will only make the unbalanced situation of this game even worse. Even the new players will feel forced to stack their diamond shards so they can buy Death Wish with it. I don't like this idea at all.

New players must always be taken into account. I no longer struggle with big HP pools and high defense, but I certainly couldn't say the same a few months back. This change only makes the Whale vs F2P gap even wider

There is a reason why there are difficulty options in every gamemode. Everyone should play in the difficulty where they are most comfortable with. So they can progress smoothly without burning themselves out. Newer players aren't supposed to fight against very well built defenders to begin with.

One can always scout the opponent in rifts as well through opponent's profile, can even refresh the opponents for free after a 2h cooldown. If you want to win you gotta find someone of your caliber, this is how it is in every game. This update makes no difference in terms of that aspect of this game.

We don't even know if those stats will be the actual gap widener, as we haven't realized the true potential what these moves can provide. Maybe it will make offensive variants even stronger with the effects they provide or open up new combo potentials? For offensive it won't nearly be as resource draining as it is for defenders. You can change them anytime you want on offensive but it has to stay on the defender.

That is not really the case for Rift however. You're at the mercy of an auto-scan that determines who you should fight, and it's not particularly accurate for lower level players. The 2h refresh is a good feature, but it doesn't make up for poor match-making. I've mentioned this in the past, and I'm supporting it now more than ever. Rifts need to be separated into 2 or 3 tiers, just like Prize Fights and other game modes.

Instead of Bronze/Silver/Gold/Diamond tiers, like we have for Prize Fights, I think Rifts should be separated into 3 tiers, where each node has maximum fighter score cap. With tier 3(the highest tier), allowing for unlimited fighter score.

This way new players can have a fair playing field, and metas for each tier can be developed, adding some more variety to the game mode.

Rewards should of course be adjusted fairly, so Tier 3 provides the most lucrative rewards

If that is the case for lower level players in rifts that is a completely different subject to consider, it shouldn't be attributed to this update imo.

A lot of folks have claimed for the Rift difficulty to be broken down even before the rework

This is a great idea to revamp rift

Agreed, RN the game is kinda overwhelming for new players because of both the power creep and the unbalancing, hell I don't know how a new to mid level player is gonna deal with someone with a maxed Guest Star let alone a Lv15 move set

Give it a month at least before making these kinds of statements 😅

I don't like the stat addition either, but it's not as bad as I thought. It's essentially an extra 30% ATK/HP if you highroll your guest stars. That's pretty manageable. And pure offensive prowess isn't the name of the game in Rift. It's still the same buffs/debuffs/reflect damage and Guest Stars don't seem to change anything there. My only real concern is honestly AI behavior with Guest Stars, but that still remains to be seen.

And if we're being honest here, Rift only attracts a small subset of players in the grand scheme of things. The vast majority of players aren't playing them so aren't affected. In fact, some casual players might even pick the game up again just to see and experiment with the new Guest Stars.

Polishing existing content vs making new content is always a difficult trade-off and it's often not possible to do both unless you're a big company. Even then, other games suffer this too (League of Legends come to mind lol). They've got over 100 characters and loads of them are severely outdated, but they only polish one or two every year or so and create at least three new characters per year. It makes a whole lot more sense to prioritize for newer things from a business standpoint. They bring in the new currency, new value, new battlepass, new excitement etc. I do wish reworks are sprinkled more often though.

Now that the foundational framework for Guest Stars are set, we can expect Roxie to come out much quicker with less dev time. And unless there's other big feature planned, I would think there would be time for those reworks to come next year. They did manage to squeeze in BBand this year so I'm hopeful.

I do disagree with the shard exchange system you pointed out. Diamonds aren't meant to be easily acquired, their prices are high/steep, but its appropriate given their rarity.

I agree, at first it seemed that everything was fine, but this is not at all the case, in order to upgrade to a diamond, you will need a lot of resources, or rather, a lot of Canopy coins. You will also need to change the characteristics, and buying moves is expensive. In daily, we still get 4 tickets every day, it would be better to add these characters separately, and not as support.
