How do I level up my player level, do I get exp while doing fights or if I level up my characters? thanks

Just fight. You'll naturally gain XP if you fight

I think you get the same amount of exp your fighters get. Not 100% sure though.

You get XP for your player level by just doing fights, you can usually level up in about a day or two if you have the fighters (and possibly time) to do it.
