One issue that many mid to high level players face is a shortage of gold. Currently Medici Shakedown is the best way to get money and it only lasts over Saturday and Sunday.
Medici Shakedown is a great Blue Energy use for beginners and experts alike. If a player is stuck in Story mode because it's too hard, sometimes Prize Fights can also be very difficult or raising a specific character can endanger your current win streak. Medici Shakedown has no tier (bronze, silver, gold) requirements and allows players to level fighters regardless of how different in tiers they may be. It also allows for player decision making.
Currently, you play bronze characters in bronze PF, silver in silver PF, and golds in gold PF. Outside of not having the correct tiers of characters each PF is entirely separate from each other. This is nice because you can have different teams but it also feels a bit predetermined.
Having Medici Shakedown throughout the week creates tension for players as they have to decide whether to further advance in Prize Fights or to use their fighters in Medici Shakedown.
This also encourages players with large collections to keep playing the game. If you already have a gold (or two or three!) character reward from a Prize Fight there's not much incentive to open and play SGM. Story mode for this kind of person is likely complete and there's little reason to try and pull down a fourth character. It's important to keep player engagement for player base retention.
My current thoughts on Medici Shakedown is to have it run two 3-day cycles. If there are concerns about gold being too easy to obtain then I think it's fine to lower the rewards to 75% of what they are now but gold seems to be one of the major bottlenecks for leveling characters and lack of progress can make the game stale for players.
