OFFICIAL: 7.1 Update Notes - New Monthly Fighters!

Every Time she gains a new buff she permanently increases damage by 10% or just once?
10% per applied buff on her for the duration of the match. So 10 buffs = 100% damage increase. Tried her out in PR and she can slap pretty hard. Starlight Rose works great with her.

The 1-hour 2x XP Boost will activate automatically as soon as it is earned. These XP boosts are also stackable, and can be used in conjunction with manually activated XP Boosts, mode-based XP boosts, (such as those found in the Holodeck), or even with additional Viewing Parlor XP Boosts.

Utilise video-based boosts alongside other boosts in your inventory for huge XP gains!
Oh how I wish this was worded differently...

They're stackable in the sense of time and the XP value... i.e. We're not getting 4x XP, but 5h worth of 2x XP

The free XP boost is nice and all, but it doesn't change the fact that nobody plays for 5 hours straight, let alone more...

She looks powerfull. I'm gonna try to get her in January!

I asked this because i thought Cosmic Rebel increased her CRIT DAMAGE every time she deals a critical hit but it's just once.

Anyway, thanks for answer me

A question: one day we will have Aeon, Venus or Scrytiana as a playable character

They can at least start as Guest Stars. Of course playable character > guest star, but any progress is good. I don't think most of their moves would translate when/if they get the promotion to playable though (unless Minette can summon a food cart and ram into people's shins as a special mobility thing like Painwheel's flight).

When GS Roxie appears, there will probably be another SHINY odds increase.

^ what-if UI suggestion to help relic hoarders

Now that we got a new batch of fighters, it would be grand if exclusive fighters had a ring of color or an icon to show they are not available in normal relic pools yet.

As of Update 7.1, we are removing the five-videos-per-day limit.

Videos will now refresh every 30 minutes, with players free to watch as many videos as they choose. Rewards for watching videos will now alternate between a 1-hour 2x XP Boost, and a standard reward, which can include Canopy Coins, Theonite, XP Treats, or a variety of Relics.
After a few days of experience, I got 10 advertising rewards at most, which was 5 hours of double XP, and then I was prompted that "no more advertising is available". Isn't this still limited in the end?

So I’ve stopped watching viewing Parlor because every other reward is XP boost that I don’t need… I have over 360 4hrs just sitting there and can never burn through them faster than you giving them out.

With the 5 view limit before, at least I know I can get it over with. Now that structure is lost there’s no trigger / quota for me to fulfill because I’m not going to spend all day watching the same ads for things I don’t need. I want to play the game when i log on SGM.

On top of this, there’s new “pop ups” to watch ads for less rewards that I just ignore now unless it’s the theonite one.

Maybe you have some people religiously farming viewing parlor but this change missed the mark for me. I’d religiously watch 5 ads a day with the old structure but this new one just ain’t working.

100% agreed. Between XP Treats and not needing to level "fodder" characters to harvest their Skill Points, the need for and appeal of XP Boosts had already fallen off pretty hard. Having every other Viewing Parlor reward be a 1-hour boost devalues both consumable boosts and the Parlor -- you don't need consumables if you can get a 1-hour boost on demand, and if you don't need the boost having half your Parlor rewards be "worthless" is off-putting.

Kneejerk fix:
Step 1) Make Parlor XP boosts be an added bonus on top of pre-patch rewards, not a replacement for them.
Step 2) Make Parlor XP boosts stack the multiplier when combined with consumable boosts, rather than the duration.

The “greater” amount of coins you can get from parallel realms as opposed to Medici prize fight is irrelevant as you can try over and over in Medici prize fight but if you screw things up in parallel realms and don’t have powerful enough characters, you won’t be able to get the full amount of coins. There is no guarantee.

I’m not such a fan of the guest stars. They are way too expensive, I spent 5 million(?) canopy coins and I’m still in silver? They should eliminate evolving and have bronze silver and gold quest fighters just like with regular fighters. But… I don’t like to be a cynic but I do think that the time spent on guest stars would be better spent on new character's themselves. These guest stars are intrusive in a way and haven’t made matches more fun to me. Of course that’s just my opinion, but I know it’s not exactly uncommon.

Feels like this is what happens when the game starts to get more “mainstream”, has that happened yet? I would like more people to get into Skullgirls mobile, it’s such a wonderful case of a ‘gatcha’ game done right. I don’t want to see it ruined by greed. I think the prices in the $store have gotten worse.

Each pairing will launch consecutively over the next three months. In the meantime, players may spot all six new Fighters chilling in the Recruitment Nodes of Parallel Realms, or making early appearances in random battles throughout Skullgirls Mobile! If you’re lucky enough to encounter one of our newcomers, then be sure to take a snapshot and share it on our socials! (including our new Bluesky account!)

7.1.1 UPDATE (hub link)

Autumn Games couldn't afford to pay anyone to remember the forums still exist so update notes are on the SGM hub.

Skullgirls Mobile – 7.1.1, April Backstage Pass & What’s Ahead

Hey everyone, we’ve got some important updates for you on our 7.1.1 patch and April Backstage Pass update.
To start, this month’s “Shiny with a Chance of Knockouts” Backstage Pass is shaking things up. For the first time in a while, we won’t be introducing new variants—which we know a lot of fans weren’t expecting, but don’t worry, they’ll be back for May.
Instead, for the first time ever, we’re giving Backstage Pass All Access holders who complete the track a guaranteed Shiny Surgeon General Valentine. This special event is limited to just this month so be sure to get your supercharged variant while you can. Just a reminder that not only does a Shiny take a lot less resources to power up, but you can also transfer the Shiny it to an existing Surgeon General Valentine to reap the same benefits.

Why the Change?

There’s a couple of reasons—first we’ve listened to you; we’ve received a lot of feedback that keeping up with the constant variant grind has been a challenge. At the same time, we’ve made the decision to take this opportunity to focus heavily on updating the codebase so that the game can support the changes we are rolling out, and plan to add many quality-of-life improvements we know you’ve been asking for. While this means less new content this month, it will allow us to dramatically accelerate development moving forward.

So What’s Coming This Month?

There’s plenty to look forward to:
  • Key Relic Release(!!) – This new relic will help players power up their collection faster. The Key Relic is exclusive to the Backstage Pass in its debut, but we’ll offer more ways to obtain it in the coming months.
  • Bug Fixes & Stability Updates – Addressing crashes and performance issues.
  • New User Experience Improvements – The first of many updates to make the game clearer and more welcoming to new players and returning players alike.

Roadmap and Beyond

We’re moving full steam ahead on some major updates, including the long-awaited Guilds feature, new variants, a few more surprises, and much more. A detailed larger roadmap announcement is on the horizon (the middle of April) so stay tuned. We’ll let you know as soon as it’s ready to announce.
Thank you for your continued passion and feedback—we’re committed to making Skullgirls Mobile better than ever.
Thanks for all your support!
-The Autumn Games Team

Note to the people writing the patch notes:
Hi! You're new here, I get it. The correct way to list a variant is to state their fighter name and then character name. Like "Blue Streak Filia" or "X-Bot Robo-Fortune." Just saying the fighter name, or getting weird with colons ("Big Band: Dream Band") makes the message unclear. Oh, and don't forget to remind your boss he still owes HVS 1.2 million dollars! 💸

The weakest patch notes I've ever seen. That's what you get when you starve your development team into quitting so you can get out of the contract and hire something, cheaper, amirite? Snark at Autumn Games' bad business practices aside, I'm glade there is at least something happening. SGM continues on! Reheated leftovers today, maybe something better in the future.

  • If you missed out on your favorite monthly Fighter in our Jan-March seasons, you have a new opportunity to add them to your roster! The six Fighters who debuted in those updates are headed to the Shard Exchange Store in 2025!
  • Wave Warrior, Glacial Ghoul, Stellar Huntress, Don Passione, Rhythm Rider, and Shear Force will all be available in the Shard Exchange Store over the coming months! If you have enough Gold and Diamond shards saved, you can exchange them for your favorite Fighter from our previous seasons!

Appreciate you adding the patch notes here.

Could’ve done w/o the snark for 3ish reasons

1) Based on messages in the discord, (it seems that) AG doesn’t have access to the forums.

2) The nitpicking difference between XBot Robo-Fortune and Robo-Fortune: XBot is negligible and a bit silly imo.

3) At the very least, we have someone trying to man the ship during uncertain times, souring this (somewhat) fragile relationship probably isn’t the path to go down.

Also, I don’t think the entirety of the details surrounding what’s going on in the lawsuit is fully public (I could be wrong on this front though) so it’d probably be wise to not fully comment on it until it is.

Hope things get better from here.

Not a fan of the Backstage Pass structure. I'd rather they put that on hold till they have some worthwhile reward. The catch-up mechanic via those new relics being exclusive to the backstage pass sounds like p2w, which I'm not really fond off.

We at least got an update I guess

The only keys I need at this point are silver. Was hoping for a means to exchange keys for, well, anything at this point; but yeah if Key Relics have a chance of being diamond, and a Key Relic costs some amount of non-farmable in-game currency which can be purchased with real money, then I totally get why they're doing this.

In the meantime I'm wagering that fewer people will be playing the monthly this time around, and concentrating instead on rift- raising the D4/G1 cutoff closer to 1530.

They should be part of Deployments tbh

The "quality of life" relic opening update is looking a little rough:

Portrait icon on the west, element on the south. Instead of haphazard cardinal directions, maybe try grouping the icons on the far left or right.

You're right, I shouldn't let my spite for the actions of AG leadership color the entire company.

1) Taking over these forums is just another bill they want to avoid paying
2) It is important they do the job correctly.
3) In your pilot metaphor, Autumn Games is the hijacker.

The lawsuit is public record. You can read about it here: https://trellis.law/doc/240911937/complaint

The dispute: from November 2024 to January 2025, Autumn Games has withheld payment from Hidden Variable Studios. 1.2 million dollars in unpaid fees. The case outlines how an agreement was signed in October 2024 for a payment schedule but HVS alleges Autumn intentionally chose to not deliver payments by specifically searching for a new developer for SGM while also entering into this payment schedule.

Important to note the part where HVS gave AG admin control and taught them how to run the game instead of holding SGM hostage. (see paragraph 31 of the court case)

Not the first time Autumn Games dried up funds. Lab Zero had to start an Indie-Go-Go campaign (Keep Skullgirls Growing) 12 years ago to keep working on the game.

I will continue to jab AG for their bad business practices. I want to give them a fair shake, but they are off to a terrible start. You don't pass the torch with a bridge-burning lawsuit. It is difficult to forgive them for treating HVS so poorly.

All AG needs to do is:

1.Provide current status of management
2.Explain why they acted the way they did
3 (IMPORTANT). Sincerely apologize to HVS and players
4. Explain the future direction of management (said to be done in mid-April)

That’s it. If they have a strong desire to management SGM even without HVS, I’d like them to show it with ATTITUDE. If not, I don’t know anymore.

Just a few points of clarification:

1) Taking over these forums is just another bill they want to avoid paying

From discord messages, it seems as if they can’t access forums in any administrative way, they don’t mention anything about money.

2) It is important they do the job correctly.

Sure, but if you want to make the case that,
Just saying the fighter name, or getting weird with colons ("Big Band: Dream Band") makes the message unclear.

I think your average reader can get the message pretty clear. Which is why it comes off nitpicky. For me, when I want them to do the job correctly, I’d hope that a) bug fixes are taken care of (these random elemental icons are and debug menu…. @.@) , b) game runs smoothly and c) updates that address community concerns are implemented. What is your idea of “doing the job correctly”?

The lawsuit is public record. You can read about it here: https://trellis.law/doc/240911937/complaint

I think you misunderstood my initial message:

Also, I don’t think the entirety of the details SURROUNDING what’s going on in the lawsuit is fully public (I could be wrong on this front though) so it’d probably be wise to not fully comment on it until it is.

There are many things surrounding details alleged in the lawsuit that hasn’t been made public yet and AG has not publicly commented on it thus far.

I will continue to jab AG for their bad business practices. I want to give them a fair shake, but they are off to a terrible start. You don't pass the torch with a bridge-burning lawsuit. It is difficult to forgive them for treating HVS so poorly.

Personally, I don’t really care if you choose to criticize AG as they’re not my friends, nor do I work there. There are 2 things worth considering though: a) It’s wiser to criticize someone/something when ALL/MOST of the information is available to you and b) what does being snarky about your criticisms do in this case? At this point, we have a (struggling) relationship with AG and we’re arguably staring down the end of SG(M) as we know it, if there’s something you want to get out of these guys, you should probably deliver it in a way that they can receive.
